Yin yoga is a less popular style of yoga that targets deep connective tissues of the body, this style helps regulate the flow of energy. Yin yoga postures are more passive ones, mainly on the floor and usually with the aid of a bolster or brick.
The concept of yin yoga has been around for thousands of years. It is a more meditative approach with a physical focus much deeper than yang like practices. As one ages, flexibility in the joints decreases and Yin yoga is a wonderful way to maintain that flexibility.
Yin yoga can also be used in programs that deal with addictions, eating disorders, anxiety and deep pain or trauma. Some of the benefits of yin yoga includes calming and balancing to the mind and body, increase in mobility especially the joints and hips, greater stamina, help with TMJ and migraines, a great coping for anxiety and stress, deeper relaxation and all other benefits of meditation.
