Work Week at Road Fork and Whipple Sections
Sat, Jul 13, 2019 at 11:30 AM - 8:00 PM
Little Muskingum Watershed Association - New Matamoras, OH
Description: Winding near the Little Muskingum River are The Road Fork & Whipple sections of the Buckeye Trail. Nestled in and around the Marietta Unit of the Wayne National Forest, these two sections of the BT offer a unique experience of rustic hiking and camping. This section is off the beaten path but the Buckeye Trail Crew is going to give it that new trail look! This is the Wilderness Loop of the BT and is an area with little encroachment by commercial activities. It is a trail of flood plain flatlands and rocky hills and valleys. There are a number of significant rock outcroppings and a couple of caves. It is not an easy section to hike but with a well maintained trail it can be a pleasurable experience. We will be re-benching the trail tread and doing vegetation management. All parts of the off-road portion of the Road Fork Section need annual attention (vegetation control and trail clearing). This will be a diverse trail building experience that will offer a wide range of learning opportunities for new trail builders and it would be a great place for veteran trail builders to pass on some of their knowledge. The Trail Crew will leave at 8:00 AM and work until 3:00 PM. Camping: Camping at the Little Muskingum Watershed Association Property, OH-26 & Township Road 88 New Matamoras, Ohio 45767. 39.54197, -81.22468 Meals: This will be a Chuck Wagon Event! That means free food at the campsite for the first 20 volunteers to contact chuckwagon@buckeyetrail.org by July 10, 2019. Also, please consider donating to the Chuck Wagon to keep our hard working volunteers fed! Contact: Tom Rohr at 419-281-7465 for work party information and to RSVP.
