About

Dear aspiring storyteller, - Have you ever seen or heard the amazing storytellers in places like The Moth, or MassMouth, or a TED talk, and wished you could do that? - Are you an aspiring writer, speaker, or coach, and you know that storytelling is a critical key to your success, but you aren't sure where to get started? - Do you have an inkling to tell your personal stories, but don’t know how to tell them in a manner that is empowering to you and l inspirational to others? - Do know in your heart that you have stories inside of you that are waiting to come out, but you're not sure how to make that happen? If you answered ‘YES!” to any of these questions, and have an interest in the transformative power of storytelling, then this FREE introductory workshop is absolutely perfect for you. Here's what this is all about: My name is Jason, and I'm one of the long-time meetup organizers in Boston. I'm bringing in my friend Debra Crosby to teach a workshop for beginners on how to create, craft, and share their personal stories with others. Debra is a master of her craft, and speakers from all over the country hire her to help them craft their very first TED talk. Whether you are an author, entrepreneur, expert, speaker, parent, professional, school teacher, coach or someone who just loves storytelling as an art form, this workshop is perfect for you. Here's a sample of what you'll learn: - Learn how to craft your story using the proven 'Hero's Journey' template that lives in everyone's subconscious minds. You can use the same formula that Hollywood has used for years to make your own story POP and capture the attention of everyone who hears it. - Learn the 'secret structure' of a compelling story so that your story really comes to life and soars as you tell it. - Learn how to apply traditional storytelling language to your personal story so it can be transformed into a folktale or fairytale. - Learn how to sprinkle in humorous moments and use comedic timing to entice genuine giggles and a warm laughter from your audience. - Learn how to listen to someone else’s story and give back the gift of telling it to them as if it were a classic tale. - And much more! If this calls to you, then please join us for this free introductory workshop. It'll be a lot of fun, and it's a very non-intimidating environment. I'm looking forward to seeing you there. Jason P.S. - Here are some frequently asked questions about the workshop: Where is the workshop held? It's at the Watertown Center For Healing Arts which is a great location for this. There's lots of free parking in the lot across the street. Do I have to get up and speak? Absolutely not. Sure, some people can volunteer to practice their story if they want to, but I promise you won't be required to at all. How big Is the workshop? On average, you can expect 15 to 20 people to attend which is a nice, comfortable size for everyone. What kind of experience does the teacher have? Debra has 3 decades of training and experience from several traditions and has studied with many masters of storytelling. In addition, she studied Creative Arts and Communication at Lesley University. She has well over 10,000 hours under her belt as a storyteller, actress, speaker, producer and trainer. She has taught thousands how to discover the confidence to succeed on stage, on screen and in life. Her clients have graced the SXSW stage, TEDx Stage, the Hard Rock Café, House of Blues, America’s Got Talent, The Voice, Hollywood films, many Independent films, television commercials, Broadway shows and many, many Greater Boston theater and local stage productions, as well, just to name a few.
