About

A Casual Bikers favorite since 2016 Meet at Sherwood Island State Park at 1:00 PM The drive is approximately 1 1/4 hours from Hartford. Parking is free for CT residents. Please have your bike in ready-to- ride condition. Tires should be pumped to maximum pressure written on the sidewall to help prevent getting a flat tire and be sure to bring a spare tire tube in case you do have a a flat. The ride is about 20 miles and is conducted at a medium pace of 10 mph. This ride is not intended for a novice rider due to the distance and hills. Our pace of 10 MPH is best suited for hybrid and mountain bikes and may be too slow for road bikes. This is a Medium Level Bike Ride: We'll spend the afternoon meandering through beautiful Sherwood Island State Park, Compo Beach, Westport Longshore Club Park and Ned Dimes Marina. Then we'll ride to Norwalk to Saugatuck Island, Canfield Island, Calf Pasture Beach and the Norwalk Beach Pier. We'll be riding on 3 miles of trails inside the park. Some are paved while others are hard packed stone dust and dirt. The road portion of the ride has some moderate to rolling hills but portions of the ride are flat. Chitchat breaks are taken every 4-5 miles. We can dine after the bike ride at Sherwood Diner located at 901 Post Road East, Westport, CT Here's the menu: https://www.sherwooddinerct.com/dinner-menu Thanks and we look forward to riding with you! Casual Ride Level Chart: A note about our ride levels. We try to accommodate all levels of cyclists with different types of rides. We just ask that you come to the ride that suits your current riding ability the best. Introductory Level : If you haven't ridden a bike in a number of years or are uncertain of your abilities on a bicycle including not knowing how to shift your gears. Beginner Level : If you can easily ride your bike for 10 miles with some minor hills at a comfortable pace. This is equivalent to riding about 1.5 hours. Medium Level : If you can do 20 miles pretty easily at a leisurely pace (10+ mph) This is equivalent to riding 3 hours at a steady pace with several breaks Please click on link below for tips on group riding: http://www.meetup.com/Casual-Bikers/pages/Tips_on_Group_Riding/ Directions from the Hartford area: Take I-91 S toward Meriden Take exit 17 to merge onto CT-15 S/Wilbur Cross Pkwy Continue to follow CT-15 Take exit 52 for State Route 108 S/State Route 8 S toward Bridgeport Keep left, follow signs for CT-8 S/Bridgeport and merge onto CT-8 Take the Interstate 95 S exit toward N.Y.
