***PLEASE READ THE WHOLE EVENT POSTING BEFORE SIGNING UP*** Let’s take a trip back in history by visiting some of the old summer cottages and settler’s buildings! These hikes are a continuation of Lane’s Training Hikes series. You should be comfortable hiking 5+ miles at a 2.0 – 2.5 mph pace. There are 2 options. When you RSVP, please pick ONE option so we can plan how to spread out leaders. Feel free to change your option on the day of the hike—just let us know. OPTION 1 (Moderate – 6.9 miles | 2700' | Max 400fpm) At 9:00 AM, we will meet at Jakes Creek Trailhead parking. After some quick introductions, we’ll shuttle to Meigs Creek Trailhead (near The Sinks, a beautiful waterfall and swimming area). If you’re hiking Option 1, you should plan to leave your car at Meigs Creek Trailhead. We will hike 3.5 miles up Meigs Creek Trail to the junction with Meigs Mountain Trail. Option 1 hikers will turn around and hike back out to their cars. You should be off trail by 1:00 PM. OPTION 2 (Moderate – 10.1 miles | 3500' | Max 500fpm) At 9:00 AM, we will meet at Jakes Creek Trailhead parking. After some quick introductions, we’ll shuttle to Meigs Creek Trailhead (near The Sinks, a beautiful waterfall and swimming area). If you’re hiking Option 2, you should plan to leave your car at Jakes Creek Trailhead. We will hike 3.5 miles up Meigs Creek Trail to the junction with Meigs Mountain Trail. We will turn left and hike east for 1.9 miles on Meigs Mountain Trail to the junction with Curry Mountain Trail. Here, we will stop for a brief lunch. After lunch, we will continue hiking east for 4.1 miles on Meigs Mountain Trail to the junction with Jakes Creek Trail. Finally, we will hike the remaining 0.7 miles back to our cars. You should be off trail by 3:00 PM. *** Please note that there are many water crossings on Meigs Creek Trail. WHAT TO BRING The 14 Essentials: https://bit.ly/2YwLnHX *** Due to the number of water crossings on Meigs Creek Trail, you will not want to be constantly changing in/out of water shoes. I would highly recommend bringing trekking poles and wearing non-waterproof shoes to help. LATECOMERS AND “NO SHOWS” Because this event has a lot of moving parts, it’s important that everyone is on time (or early). We’d hate to leave you behind because you’re running late! If your plans change and you can’t come on the hike, please remember to change your RSVP so we’re not waiting for you. ***Failure to change your RSVP or let us know at least an hour ahead of the hike’s start time qualifies as a “No-Show” for me, and you may not be able to hike with me in the future.
