This is the original Rancho Cordova hike, now every other week at this trailhead. Bring water and wear layers. Winter, fall and early spring, we hike in the dark, so bring flashlights, too! If there's a chance of rain, come prepared (I'll cancel if it's pouring.) Good boots or trail shoes recommended. We leave at 6:10 sharp, back to the cars in just over 2 hours. If you're running late, okay to call: 916.560.9365 Susan Dogs okay on leash. There are restrooms open before dark at two points along our way, as well as drinking fountains. It's a beautiful hike, about 2 hours, mostly trails and dirt paths, but partially on the paved bike path. It's fairly fast-paced, starting from Hagan Park, along the river through River Bend Park, across the bridge to William Pond Park and beyond before turning around and coming back a slightly different route. There are snakes and brambles, roots and rocks, bugs and fairly fast walkers. No complaining; you have been forewarned. (We pause after the first half-hour, so if you find yourself falling behind, just speak up and we'll talk about possibilities.) We get back around 8pm, give or take. Park in the Community Center lot, or in front of the new Performing Arts building (well-lit, treeless parking lot), BEFORE the park entrance. Look for people standing around! (I have a silver Prius.)
