This winding, 8-mile float down a section of the Neuse River runs through Cliffs of the Neuse State Park, ending at the public boat ramp in Seven Springs. Features of this trail include a tie-up at a sandbar and a view of the park's overlook from below. Fallen trees and limbs remaining from Hurricane Florence are likely to be encountered along the river banks, but the river is entirely passable now. The state park's website says this trip is for experienced paddlers and that the trip will likely take about three hours. We'll meet at the visitors center, notify the rangers of our float plan, then shuttle the boats to the launch and vehicles to the take-out. The launch is about 2 mi. north of the park entrance, at the intersection of River Rd and Mince Hill Rd., which is about 1,000 ft down River Rd, east of the Broadhurst Bridge on Rt 111. The take-out in Seven Springs is a less-than-10-minute drive from the launch, so shuttling will be a breeze. Carpooling is always welcome if your vehicle can carry more than one boat. Please post if you can offer a ride. The park is about 90 minutes by car from downtown Wilmington. As always, be prepared for weather & bugs, bring drinking water and snacks, and let's consider an "after-action debriefing" over lunch or drinks!
