Participants will meet at a predetermined location in Columbus and ride together by van(s) to Fort Benning. Spend the morning with staff from the Fort Benning Natural Resources Branch and get an up-close look at the diverse natural world that lives and thrives on this 182,000 acre military Installation. We will visit a red-cockaded woodpecker cluster, see a bald eagle’s nest, discover more about the longleaf pine ecosystem, learn about the importance of prescribed fire and get a glimpse into the conservation programs and active land management occurring daily across the Installation. There will be a $10 fee to help cover van rental. Lunch at a local restaurant after the field trip is optional. Pre-registration is required for this field trip and participation will be limited. Please contact Laura Breyfogle @ to register.
