There's cooler weather coming in this week and weekend to give a brief respite from the usual TX heat, so I booked a campsite at Enchanted Rock for two nights, Friday and Saturday. Camping is not required for this trip, so you are welcome to come out to day-hike with us on Saturday. ***UPDATES*** I'll be arriving to the park likely late afternoon on Friday (3-4ish) so the day-hiking will most likely happen on Saturday. We're probably going to explore every inch of the park so it could easily be 11+ miles. I've adjusted the Meetup times accordingly. My campsite reservation is now full, so if you are interested in camping, you'll have to secure your own reservations. If you're not camping, be sure to get a day pass online to ensure entrance to the park. TX State Park Reservations site: https://texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/ Location Details: Enchanted Rock park features a huge granite dome rising 425 ft. above ground, with the peak sitting at 1,825 ft. The park covers 1,640 acres. It is one of the largest batholiths in the U.S. and one of the best examples of an exfoliation dome anywhere. The flora, fauna and natural beauty of this unique area are impressive. Activities include primitive backpacking, camping, hiking, rock climbing, picnicking, geological study and star gazing. The park opens at 8am and tends to fill to capacity pretty quick (within a couple hours) so I recommend you purchase your day pass online well ahead of your visit otherwise you could be turned away without a pass. If you get a camping reservation, you don’t need a day pass. Enchanted Rock Park Info: https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/enchanted-rock Enchanted Rock Trail Map: https://tpwd.texas.gov/publications/pwdpubs/media/park_maps/pwd_mp_p4507_119q.pdf Optional Activity idea: Longhorn Caverns State Park was developed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), the park’s star attraction is Longhorn Cavern, an underground wonder created by the dissolving and cutting action of an ancient river. Longhorn Caverns Info: https://visitlonghorncavern.com/walkingtour/ What we'll be doing: The primary activity will be hiking and exploring Enchanted Rock (they have 11 miles of trail) on Saturday. The Longhorn cavern walking tour is 90 minutes long and are scheduled every hour and half hour on the weekends so they are pretty flexible. What to bring: Ya'll know the drill by now! Bring water, snacks, moisture wicking clothing, hat, sun glases, good shoes, sunscreen, and a sense of adventure. If you need to contact me: Please keep your RSVP up to date - I’m not sure how cell service will be at the park. As schedules may change, you can contact me at 4695696797.
