Hi. If you are using the Meetup mobile app on your phone, look down a few lines below and tap the red-colored "Read more" to expand the description. TAP THIS --------- If you are using a computer or laptop/notebook, then you should be fine. Okay, everybody should now be able to see the full description on their screen. Reminder for everyone: If Meetup sends too many emails, then look at the bottom of their email and click Unsubscribe or Manage your settings or account page. Recommended for anyone new to this group or volunteering for the first time: ____________________ Attention: This is automatically posted in this group. It's possible there isn't a dance event on this date/month. I'll try to check each month, but if I forget, please remember to check the LA Works site or BCR website. I don't want anyone to drive there to find out there isn't an event this Friday/month, so please confirm the date before going. Thank you. ____________________ Hi. Would anyone want to attend this event and help host? Hosting isn't hard. It involves being a point of contact in case others sign up and want to meet & volunteer together. If your plans/availability change, and you can't attend anymore, that's fine, just let us know and maybe someone else can step up to host, but if not, it's okay and we can cancel this meetup. ____________________ FAQ Q: Why can't I just show up? If I sign up here on Meetup, why do I also have to sign up with another person or register on another site? A: I don't want anyone to show up to find out the event is canceled / rescheduled, or that they have too many volunteers and room isn't available for you to help. Registering with them will save you a spot with them and they can confirm the date, start time, address, parking info, instructions, and updates if anything changes. Scroll down for more info on how to register with them. ____________________ I try to spread the word about volunteer opportunities and raise awareness about non-profits/charities that do good work. This event is through L.A. Works and BCR. On the 2nd Friday of some months, "BCR co-sponsors with the City of Burbank monthly evening dances for adults and teenagers, age 16 and older. The dances attract people with special needs from surrounding communities." "The Center provides...monthly evening dances, for children and adults with developmental disabilities -- mental retardation, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral-palsy, seizure disorders and other disabling conditions." Regardless of your dance skills, many participants are friendly to dance with new people. It's a fun night full of smiles & laughter. Volunteers can arrive after 6:30pm. I could be wrong, but the dance might start around 7:00 or 7:15 pm. Totally understandable people may need extra time to arrive because of traffic or eating dinner. Arrive whenever you can and feel free to interact & socialize with others who are there. A variety of fun songs are played. No need to have a dance partner per se. It's kind of like a "group dance" where everyone dances together with whoever is standing nearby. Some of the regular attendees are friendly. Here's an example of someone who asked me to dance with her. ____________________ To help me save time, this is automatically posted in this group, but please check the L.A. Works site to confirm they are actually having an event on this date. Regardless of what is posted on here, please check their site in case they cancel / reschedule (holiday, inclement weather, summer/winter break, project leader is busy/sick, etc.). Or check their dance calendar at or call Angela from BCR via 818-843-4907. Signing up here on Meetup is insufficient. Each person should also register with L.A. Works. ____________________ Photos: ____________________ Even though this is posted here, it's possible this event may be canceled / rescheduled, or they may have enough volunteers. So if anyone wants to participate, it's important to register with L.A. Works. Sign up at Scroll down for the corresponding date and in the right column is a plus sign. Click on + to expand the box and click on "Sign Up" If this date is full, try signing up for a future date. After registering with L.A. Works, they will provide more info/details and other instructions/directions. ____________________ Parking at the rec center should be free. After going inside, turn right, and walk down the hallway. A person/table is usually in the hallway for checking in volunteers. If not, look for a door on the left side or listen for music. ____________________ Photo Source/Credit: LA Times
