We will sail from Waukegan to Kenosha, site of the Tall Ships Festival, with Skipper Jesse on Limnos, a Pacific Seacraft Crealock 34’ Cutter. The cruise begins at Waukegan Harbor Marina, 55 S. Harbor Place, Waukegan, IL - South Harbor, South Pier, Slip S5-20 (Finger dock S5, Slip 20 – see diagram.) This cruise will be the day before the Tall Ships Festival begins and will take 3 to 4 hours. The following day (Thursday, August 1) will be the Tall Ships Parade of Ships. Crew members who wish to stay overnight or longer in Kenosha should make hotel reservations immediately because of Festival demand. If interested, consult the Tall Ships Kenosha web site https://www.kenoshatallships.com/ Home - Tall Ships® Kenosha TALL SHIPS RETURN! August 1-4, 2019 Countdown to Wind, Water & Song! CLICK HERE TO BUY TICKETS. Kenosha Logo www.kenoshatallships.com Metra train service is available for returning to Waukegan after the cruise. There is a Kenosha to Waukegan Metra train at 2:49 PM and at 5:51 PM. The trip takes about 20 minutes. To walk to the Kenosha Metra station from the marina will take about 15 minutes (0.8 miles.) From the Waukegan Metra station to the Waukegan Marina parking lot is about a 9 minute walk (0.4 miles.) Additional information will be provided to those who sign up for the sail. On weekdays, you may park for free in the south lot near the Port Authority office. Entry to the boats slips is through the office (open at 8:00 am every day). The office has restrooms, shower facilities, and a small ship’s store. Enter the South Pier through the Marina Office; the South Pier is to the right coming out of the office. Exit the east door toward the water, turn right until you reach the main south pier, turn left, then immediately take the lower walkway on the left side (odd piers are on the left, even piers on the right.) Pier 5 is marked and Slip 20 is out toward the end (see diagram). If needed because of baggage, the Marina Office can send a golf cart to the guest parking lot for a pickup; call the Waukegan Marina office (phone number available at www.waukeganharbor.com.) See photo of marina below and follow the path marked in red. Crew members should bring their own PFD (life vest), sailing gloves, sun glasses, foul weather jacket and boat shoes (non-marring shoes) along with water or soft drink. Send a message to Jesse via Meetup if you need to borrow a PFD. (Please, no glass containers.) It is always good to bring something to share with others, i.e.: cookies, vegetables, beer, or a dish to pass. Remember the temperature on the Lake can be much colder than on land, bring several layers of clothing. A sweater, hat and warm gloves are not out of order. Please remember the captain is responsible and in charge of his or her boat. Listen, observe, ask questions and learn. Ask what you can do to help. You will be physically active and acting as one of the crew on a sail boat, not just going for a boat ride; participate and enjoy the experience. If you are a dues-paying member, remember that you can bring a guest. Just RSVP that you are doing so. Your guest will need to fill out a temporary guest application. You can have them complete before they come out (see note for non-paid members below). The skipper will have an application on board also. For non-paid members, we must have your signed Temporary Guest Membership Application on file before you can RSVP for an event. Please click on “What we’re about” on our Meetup website and follow the instructions on “HOW TO SAIL WITH US”. Note that only dues-paying members can bring a guest -other will need to sign up on our Meetup website as a Temporary Guest, as noted above.
