TRAA Star Party at Royer Oaks Observatory - May 4th, 2019 Spring has sprung! The first Tule River Amateur Astronomers star party of 2019 is scheduled to be at Royer Oaks Observatory above Springville, on Saturday, May 4th, 2019. We're all anxious to get out under the stars again after our winter hiatus. Since this is early in the year there is a reasonably likely chance that the clouds will not cooperate with us, so remember to check the Royer Oaks website for confirmation the day of the party. http://www.royeroaks.com Royer Oaks Observatory 40708 Balch Park Road #B Springville, CA 93265 http://goo.gl/maps/R5hxO Please try to arrive at the observing site by 7:44p (sunset). Be respectful of others as they try to get their eyes dark adapted. Avoid using a white flashlight. ClearDarkSky is a good resource to monitor for the expected sky conditions at Royer Oaks Observatory. http://cleardarksky.com/c/RyrOkObCAkey.html Wondering what satellites might be flying over Royer Oaks? Use Heavens-Above. http://heavens-above.com/?lat=36.21117&lng=-118.81268&alt=0&loc=Royer+Oaks&TZ=PST You should bring warm clothes because it will get cold as the night progresses, a dim RED flashlight to protect your night-vision, and some drinking water. (A thermos of coffee or hot chocolate and some snacks might not be a bad idea) Lawn chairs and a blanket to lay on are also very popular. If you have binoculars, definitely bring those. Royer Oaks is about a 1 hour and 10 minute drive from Visalia. Here is a complete list of the scheduled star party dates for 2019. Note that dates are subject to change or cancellation depending upon availability of the observing site, and the weather. If you can't make it for this gathering then please keep these dates in mind. > May 4, 2019 June 1, 2019 (No July gathering this year) August 3, 2019 August 31, 2019 September 28, 2019 October 26, 2019 For more information visit: http://www.royeroaks.com Thanks, Paul Laufer Tule River Amateur Astronomers ---END---
