About

Outdooraholics are delighted to announce another visit to Cadair Idris (also spelt Cader Idris), a mighty mountain in the Southern part of the Snowdonia range of Wales. Cadair Idris is often overlooked in favour of Mount Snowdon due to it being the largest mountain in Wales, but Cadair Idris offers far more spectacular and challenging hiking than Mount Snowdon making it the second most popular mountain in Wales and a bit of a hidden gem. We have a booking at a gorgeous rural hostel in a remote and idyllic setting, that's surrounded by woodland and on the banks of the River Gwynant. Numbers on this trip are limited to just 28 attendees and we also have 2 experienced hike leaders with Outdoors First Aid qualifications. Trip Highlights: • Take on a challenging hike to conquer the mighty Cadair Idris (893m) • Enjoy a stay at a remote and idyllic Rural Hostel on the banks of the River Gwynant • Explore the magnificent peaks of Craig Lwyd (690m) and Mynydd Gwerngraig (686m) • Hike up to the stunning peak of Maesglase (676m) - the highest of the Dyfi hills Photos - All photos were taken by Outdooraholics on previous trips Join our Facebook community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Outdooraholics Weekend Description Cadair Idris is a spectacular mountain consisting of a 6 mile long elevated ridge. Based near to the sea it offers breathtaking views on a clear day - Mount Snowdon can be seen as well as distant views of Ireland. Cadair Idris is 893m high and after we reach the summit we will have a superb hike around the narrow rim of its cwm offering breathtaking views in all directions. Snowdon itself attracts the masses due to being the largest mountain in Wales which leaves Cadair Idris far quieter and it's certainly a fairly undiscovered gem. ITINERARY Friday 12th July Head over to our hostel accommodation booked in Snowdonia. You can arrive any time from 7pm. Saturday 13th July Saturday's hike: Cadair Idris Distance: 7 miles (11 km) Ascent: 840m Grading: Challenging, some proper mountain hiking - click here for details: https://www.meetup.com/Outdooraholics/pages/11840782/Hike_Gradings Hiking time: About 4 to 5 hours of actual hiking We shall cover not just Cadair Idris but also 2 other mountain peaks on this spectacular and breathtaking hike. After our tough day we shall head out to dinner locally. Sunday 14th July Sunday's hike: Maesglase Distance: 5 miles (8km) Ascent: Approx 400/500m Grading: Intermediate/Challenging - click here for details: https://www.meetup.com/Outdooraholics/pages/11840782/Hike_Gradings Hiking time: About 3 to 4 hours of actual hiking A less tough day than Saturday, nevertheless offering a fine challenge.
