About

DESCRIPTION We're going to join the Edmonton Overlanders Orienteering Club for their Smoky Lake forest event. The attendee limit is going to be 3 people because we'll be in a group and it's not feasible to have any more than 4 in a group for orienteering. Because of this I request that only serious RSVP's sign up. Edmonton Overlanders Orienteering Club Event details: http://www.orienteer.ab.ca/white-earth-2019/ The Edmonton Overlanders Orienteering Club requires a waiver to be signed for attending their events, so please be prepared to read and sign one. The distance we'll be hiking is going to be approximately 10-12 km. The map distances are as the crow flies. By the time you find the controls (points on the map you are looking for) you've wandered around quite a bit trying to find them. We'll do one of the technically advanced courses. TRAVEL We will meet in the parking lot on the south side of the Belvedere LRT Station. Look for a White Mitsubishi Outlander in the Southeast (Section F) corner. Be there for 8:00 am and will be leaving at 8:05 am sharp. For logistical reasons I request that no one meets at the event. It's going to be a lot easier if we all just pile into my car and go together. COST Cost for this event is $15 ($2 event fee, $8 car pool and $5 map). Because I am a member of the Edmonton Overlanders club, if I bring 1 person who has never ever orienteered before we both get in for free. So the cost for one lucky person will be $10. WHAT TO BRING Wear appropriate clothing for hiking and the weather, lunch and at least 2 litres of water. Dogs and children are not permitted. HIKE AT YOUR OWN RISK The organizer of your event is not acting as a professional guide and is not responsible for any injuries or losses resulting from your participation in the Group's events. Participation is entirely voluntary and you assume all the risks of the event, whatever circumstances may occur. In all instances, you are responsible for providing the proper equipment for your own safety.
