Mill Creek Visitor Center - Mentone, CA
34701 Mill Creek Rd
It's time for the 3rd annual San Beer-nardino Peak hike!! NOTE: If I haven't hiked with you, an answer to the hiking experience question is REQUIRED as part of your RSVP, and your hiking profile must include a real photo of you. Thank you! 6:30am - meet at Mill Creek Ranger Station for those interested in carpooling 7:00am - meet at Angelus Oaks TH and get started! (driving directions below) Stats to SB Peak: ~16 miles out and back, 4600' elevation gain Option to add East SB Peak for another ~2-3 miles (r/t) along the ridgeline, bringing the hike up to the 18-19 mile-ish range, with a modest add'l elevation gain. If you're interested in the Beer-nardino Peak part, please bring a bottle of a favorite or otherwise interesting beer (chilled, please!) and a cup so we can share in a little toast to a great day in the mountains. Since we'll be at altitude and will still have many miles to go before we sleep, this will just be a few celebratory swigs and maybe a little sampling as part of a typical summit rest/recharge, not a long stop at the peak with a few rounds of drinks. Also, you can definitely participate in the hike without the summit suds. A few hike descriptions: 1) http://socalhiker.net/hiking-san-bernardino-peak-trail/ 2) http://www.modernhiker.com/2014/07/03/hike-and-backpack-san-bernardino-peak/ 3) http://www.everytrail.com/guide/san-bernardino-peak-via-angeles-oaks MY PACE : I'm a hiker, not a trail runner; if you average 3+ mph, you'll likely be ahead of me. I don't mind, but will not try to keep up with you either. If you hike 2 mph or slower, you'll be behind me. Again, I don't mind, and you may find others in the group are at your pace. Either way KNOW THE TRAIL! *KNOW YOUR LIMITATIONS* By signing up for this event, you acknowledge and agree that hiking can be dangerous and involve risk. You are responsible for you own safety, well-being, actions, gear, and transportation. I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL GUIDE OR HIKER. This is simply an invitation to hike with me and fellow hikers. Do NOT attempt this event if it is over your ability or comfort level. I reserve the right to allow or deny your reservation due to safety concerns. DIRECTIONS TO ANGELUS OAKS TH: Exit I-10 East on Orange St, following the ramp until Orange St, at which point you make a left. Make a right on Lugonia Ave to follow Highway 38. Remain on Highway 38 through Mentone, past the Mill Creek Ranger Station, and then past Valley of the Falls Drive, where the road while take a sharp switchback to the left. At the village of Angelus Oaks, make a right onto Fir Street at the fire station. Take an immediate left on Frontage Road. Follow that until you make a right onto a forest service road named "1Wo7." This bumpy dirt road will dead-end at the trailhead. For mapping purposes, use 5766 Frontage Rd, Angelus Oaks, CA 92305. Add 5-7 minutes to drive from this address (the Fire Station) to the forest service road and trailhead. Note there are no "amenities" at this trailhead, which I believe means no Adventure Pass is necessary.
