So anyone else up for a ride around the 12 mile family trail?? There are some basic skills extensions to add to the fun. Depending on who and how many we get along, we could have a faster and a slower group, those that want to have a gentle pootle and those who want to zoooooom along. I'm thinking that we could do 1 or 2 of circuits of the family trail, possibly once each way around and then go off to do the Verderers intermediate trail (the blue route) for those who still have the energy and enthusiasm for a bit more challenging riding. So we have a choice of 12, 24 or 31 miles depending on how much you'd like to do. The Verderers route is really only suited to confident riders with lots of steep ascents and descents on very rough, stony and at times slippery single track with sizeable tree roots to go over as well. This trail is only suited to mountain bikes and some suspension at least is advised, although I have done it on a steel framed bike with no suspension, not comfortable I can tell you. Meeting up Dean Forest Cycles, New Road, Parkend, GL15 4HG and then heading on to the pedalabikeaway centre in Cannop. Bring some water/food/picnic as we will probably stop for a bite to eat, there is a cafe at the start point and another at Cannop if you don't fancy taking your own food along. The weather could be either warm or cool and may involve some puddles even if the rain holds off so expect that you may get a bit muddy, but then that's part of the fun. Please car share if you can, bikes can be hired there for anyone who feels their bike isn't suitable or can't transport it. Pretty much any mountain bike or hybrid will be fine if just doing the family trail. Please keep in mind which route options you are choosing when hiring bikes so you have them for long enough check out http://deanforestcycles.co.uk/cyclehire.html for information on bikes available and prices. The family trail takes an hour to an hour and a half depending on how fast you are and the Verderers takes around an hour and a half too. This is a multi group meetup in conjunction with the Cheltenham Active Adventurers and the Super Stroud Socials.
