About

ABOUT US: We are a community of queer (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex) and straight hikers, skiers, backpackers and more. We embrace diversity and celebrate our differences. All orientations, straight and gay, are welcome as well as all gender identities and expressions. ABOUT THIS TRIP: This hike is two wonderful foothill loop hikes from the same trailhead. Both the Longhorn and Rawhide Loops are about 5 miles in length each, with about 1,200 ft elevation loss/gain per loop. We will hike the Longhorn Loop first (estimate 2.5 hours), then hike the Rawhide Loop. Hikers can hike just the Longhorn Loop, or continue on for the Rawhide Loop. LUNCH (OPTIONAL): Afterwards, we will gather for a late lunch at the Ali Babba Grill, 109 N Rubey Dr, Golden, CO 80403. DOG FRIENDLY: The usual leash rules apply. There will be mtn bikes on the trails; therefore, retractable leashes are generally not a good idea. INTERMEDIATE DIFFICULTY / AVERAGE FITNESS / STEADY PACE: See photos for a description of hiking difficulty. This is a 5 - 10 mile hike on variable trails with mountain bikes passing by. You should be in good physical shape and be capable of maintaining a 2 MPH pace over varying terrain. As a guideline, you should have a 2 hour hike on hilly terrain under your hipbelt for the season (or similar level of fitness). The hike will be on mostly improved trail, but we may encounter temperature changes and rain. You should have the experience to cope with these changes during the day.
