Diablo Foothills Regional Park is northwest and next to Mt. Diablo State Park, not far from Walnut Creek. This loop hike will begin at the Old Borges Ranch trailhead, head along a short section of Mokelumne C.T.C. Trail, across the border into Mt. Diablo S.P. for only 2 miles, then return back along Castle Rock Rec. Area to trailhead. Rock formations along hike include China Wall and the Castle Rock ridgeline. Distance: About 7 miles total on LOOP hike; wide trails and single track. Elevation: Trailhead about 600' elev. High point about 1000'. Difficulty: First half of hike is the hardest due to many ups/downs on hillsides. Second half is easier - moderately easy, mostly flat and low hills. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR BEGINNER HIKERS. Exposure: Varies - first half more exposed/open, second half more shaded. Restrooms: At trailhead. Dogs: O.K. on leash, bring poop bag please. Fees: No fees at park but please offer to help with gas if you rideshare. Bring: Let's do bag lunch as there is a covered picnic area near parking lot. Suggest dressing for warm weather; wear hiking boots or sturdy walking shoes. Day pack with plenty of water/hydrating drinks. Suggest sunscreen and hat. Trekking poles recommended. MEET AT STARBUCKS IN NORTH STOCTON (I-5 AT TRINITY PARKWAY) BY 7:15 a.m. FOR CARPOOLS TO TRAILHEAD.
