Beginner Backpacking Trip (Includes Meals & More!) Kick Off Summer The Right Way
Fri, Jun 21 at 7:00 PM - Sun, Jun 23 at 4:00 PM, 2019
IAT Trailhead - Medford, WI
Sailor Creek Rd
Escape the busy campgrounds and join us for a more remote experience! Let's go backpacking on the Ice Age Trail and put a few miles under our boots. This 20 mile stretch has several small lakes and streams. We will make our own camp each night or use one of several primitive sites already scattered along the trail. This trip not only gives you that "back country feel" but also offers countless opportunities for real wilderness and backpacking skill development such as hanging bear bags, purifying water, rigging a group tarp if it rains, and fire building skills! We will meet at the designated trail head about 4 hours north of Milwaukee on Friday (see map) and shuttle a few cars with everyone to the start location. The pace will be relaxed and the trail is well marked. We will hike about 6 miles on Friday, 11 miles on Saturday, and just 3 miles out Sunday. The types of skills gained on our trips don't only help develop a deeper connection with nature but they strengthen confidence, and general awareness in the outdoors. This will be a beginner trip based on miles/terrain, ease of water access, and expected weather conditions. The trip length can be easily adjusted to accommodate foul weather. It is very common for a beginner to "NOT" have all of the gear necessary for a trip like this so we're going to make it a little easier for you :) Don't worry about food, stoves, pots, pans or water filters, we have you covered! Meals are included and here's why>>> It's not just about planning your meals right for high activity in the woods but also how you plan to cook your meals. You can cook over a fire, on a stove, or in a bag with boiled water. By including meals on this trip, you don't have to purchase a camp stove and fuel or a proper mess kit. (That's $100 + in saving right there!) A simple plastic tupperware container with a fork and spoon and a cup is all you'll need for this trip. We will have hearty group meals cooked over fire or prepped on the trail every day. We can accommodate most diets too. EASY! Group water will be purified morning, noon, and night to make refilling your bottles a breeze. Feel free to bring a filter of your own as well for on the go ease! If you need gear, we do have a group gear shed for our meetup community. Items such as hammocks, ultra light stoves, backpacks, and more are available for rent at just a few dollars a day. AS ALWAYS >>> A recommended gear list and other pertinent info will be sent out upon registration. Cost 125.00 (Bring a few friends and save $25 per person!) >Payments must be received by Monday June 10th. >Paypal link--> www.paypal.me/nickofthewoods/125 >Credit Cards and Checks are also accepted.
